She Made Me Do It was formed by Shaheena Dax and Will Crewdson, of glam-punk rockers Rachel Stamp, when their main band went on hiatus from touring in 2013. It was originally envisaged as an electro pop project with post-punk stylings, with Dax, Rachel Stamp’s keyboardist, taking on lead vocal duties and Crewdson playing guitar and synths.

Having released their first self-titled EP in November 2013 to glowing reviews, their debut album Endless Dream State, on their very own Catranstic Records, followed in 2015, a mixture of electronic bleeps, twangy guitar and sensuous vocals that John Robb at Louder Than War described as “throbbing late night electronic sex pop full of dark shadows and ghost like sounds.”

This was swiftly followed by second album The Frantic Legion in 2017 which expanded on their sound, from the rousing chorus of What’s Going Down to the punchy riffage of Sleepless In Detroit, topped with Dax’s evocative lyrics that mined obsession, loneliness, war, PTSD, love and loss.

She Made Me Do It has evolved into a powerful live act, having played regularly around the UK and abroad, often with Crewdson’s Scant Regard solo project in support. Joe Holweger, a fellow member of Adam Ant’s band with Crewdson, joined them on drums, initially for live performances and more recently has become a full band member.

Dax also decided to expand her repertoire by learning bass guitar from scratch and soon incorporated it into live shows as She Made Me Do It’s sound became harder and more expansive.

In recent years, the band have released a number of acclaimed EPs (Garbo’s Pool, Drenched, Scorched, Otherworldly, Starlust And Other Tales and Artificial), and their latest, Pulverised, is their most fully realised and confident work to date.

The band have enjoyed a fruitful relationship with designer/filmmaker Jeff Conway at Pushing Normal who has not only provided much of their striking imagery and label idents but also directed five hugely imaginative promo videos that mix animation with live action including last year’s Artificial and their superlative reworking of The Cure’s classic Three Imaginary Boys.

Duncan Catterall’s videos for Bones, Broken Morning and Free Again have also been important for setting a visual template for the band, while Craig Griffith is responsible for the promos for Silver Lining and The Emotional One from the Pulverised EP, shot in a more cinéma vérité style.
